The film is based on the life and times of a superstar heroine from the dream factory we call ‘Bollywood’.
The music was composed by IIFA Award winner Salim Merchant along with Sulaiman Merchant and Salim Sulaiman.After his incredible run of women-centric films from Chandni Bar,, Satta and Corporate to the blockbuster Fashion, Madhur Bhandarkar now turns his lens inwards and presents his most ambitious work yet – Heroine. Cinematography was done by Mahesh Limaye and editing by Deven Murudeshwar. The screenplay for the movie was written by Anuraadha Tewari and Ajeet Ghorpade. Heroine was made on a budget of ₹35 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹33 crore. Heroine was released on 21st September 2012 and takes a screen time of 150 minutes. UTV Motion Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the film. Heroine is written by Madhur Bhandarkar, Niranjan Iyengar and Anuradha Tiwari and it is directed by Madhur Bhandarkar. Bhandarkar Entertainment was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Madhur Bhandarkar, Siddharth Roy Kapur and Ronnie Screwvala.
